Palm Beach Style

How to look coastal-chic on the island

Nowhere tastefully whispers “coastal chic” quite like Palm Beach. Our seaside town is known for perfect weather, some seriously impressive real estate, and, of course, its signature preppy-yet-colorful, sophisticated style. Worth Avenue and the rest of the island is the perfect runway for bold prints and a colorful/beachy palette. And white. There’s lots of white.

The goal is to put a lot of effort in, but look as if you didn’t. For the most part, dress is pretty casual, unless you’re going to a black tie event. Flip flops, a big sun hat and coordinating cover-up around the pool. And for dinner or shopping, “resort dressy” is the vibe.

For men, that means slacks or tailored shorts and collared shirt, either long sleeve or short. And guys, don’t be afraid of color! Ditch the tie, but wear a jacket in the cooler months. For women, dresses in bold prints and colors are chic AND comfortable. Pair with a wedge heel or a leather sandal, a straw bag, and you’re ready to be seen on the scene in Palm Beach.

Ladies, when it comes to accessories, it’s all about color and making a statement. Straw hats for around the pool or for a stroll up the avenue, bold jewelry often in natural elements like wood or metal, and a pair of Jack Rogers sandals will keep you looking as chic as Jackie Kennedy back in the day. (Yes, she was known to rock a pair of Jack Rogers.) And, don’t forget the oversized shades.
