5 Things to Do With Kids Over Spring Break If You Can't Leave the House

Schools in Palm Beach County are closed and kids are home for an elongated spring break, but what to do with them? The closure of theme parks, festivals, and museums is making it difficult for parents to keep children active and entertained. To help, we have created a list of things to do at home to keep the whole family from going stir-crazy.

Bring out the board games

Why not resort to a timeless, pre-internet family bonding classic: board games! A board game is the perfect activity to limit screen time and have fun with the whole family. If you are looking for ideas to jog kids’ minds while they are out of school, try Clue, Boggle, or Scrabble. Of course, playing classics such as Monopoly, Sorry!, and Pictionary is a great way to pass the time. Happy gaming!

Hang with animals…online

The San Diego Zoo, Pittsburg Zoo, and Philadelphia Zoo have webcams displaying animals in their habitats. While kids may not have biology class for a few weeks, they can watch the animals eat and play, and even research what they’re seeing on the webcam. The panda, cheetah, and giraffe cams are the most popular. Don’t forget to check out Palm Beach County’s own live manatee cam, too!

Travel the world from the comfort of your couch

Have you always wanted to visit the Great Pyramid of Giza? The Colosseum? Or the Palace of Versailles? Thanks to Google Arts and Culture, now you can experience the vacation of your dreams without leaving your home! The ‘street view’ setting transports you and your family to famous sites and landmarks to feel like you are actually there.

Bake with your little ones

Among the abundance of activities you can do with your newfound spare time, baking seems to be a no-brainer. Making comforting family recipes such as cakes, pies, and cookies is a special way to spend time with your kids. A helping hand is always welcome in the kitchen!

Conduct a science experiment

There are so many mind-blowing, hands-on science labs you can try at home, whether that is making slime, your own rock candy, or the classic homemade volcano. Thanks to common household items and some ingenuity, you can turn any home into a chemistry lab.
